The Great Vigil of Easter is celebrated at St. Mark's at dawn on Easter Day. The liturgical highlight of the year, this service begins in the dark and features the kindling of new fire; sung Exsultet; the recitation of salvation history in Scripture and song; renewal of Baptismal Vows; the "resurrection" of the Alleluias (banners the children made and buried are "unburied" and mounted on the walls of the worship space); bell-ringing; and a Festal Holy Eucharist. The service begins in candlelight in the darkness before dawn and ends in the glorious light of the New Day of Christ's resurrection.
Worship is followed by the Easter Brunch at 8am and an Easter Egg Hunt at 9am. You'll be home by 9:30 with the day before you!
Come in your pajamas if you'd like!—it's early.
And if it's too early, come to brunch, to the egg hunt, and to the 9:30 service. You should still get home by 11!
